Dr. Abdullah Al-Bargi


Dr. Abdullah Al-Bargi is the President of Saudi TESOL. He is an Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics. He has a PhD in Linguistics/Rhetoric and Composition (2006) and an MA TESL (2001) from Arizona State University, USA. He is a certified site reviewer for the US-based Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA).

Prior to his appointment as Dean of the English Language Institute (ELI) at King Abdulaziz University (KAU) in early 2017, Dr. Al-Bargi had served as the ELI Vice-Dean for Development for seven years. He had also served as the Supervisor General of the Strategic Planning Unit in the Office of the KAU Vice-President for Educational Affairs.

In June 2020, KAU assigned Dr. Al-Bargi to lead a national team for planning a major government ELT project .

Dr. Al-Bargi chairs the ELI Council and the KAU Preparatory Year Management Committee. He is a member of the US Linguistic Society of America (LSA) and also of two of its committees: Language in the School Curriculum Committee (LiSC) and the Linguistics in Higher Education Committee. (LiHeC).

Dr. Turki Al-Solami


Dr. Turki Al-Solami, Vice President of Saudi TESOL. He is an Assistant Professor of TESOL. He has a BA in English Language and Literature from KAU (2002), an MA in TESOL from New South Wales University, Australia (2004), and a PhD in TESOL from Flinders University, Australia (2013).

Dr. Al-Solami had served in a wide range of higher administrative and executive capacities at ELI prior to his appointment as Vice-Dean for Graduate Studies & Academic Research in 2019. He served as ELI Administrative and Financial Affairs Supervisor from 2014-2015 and as E-learning & Distance Education Unit Head from 2017 to 2019.

Dr. Mansoor Al-Malki 


Dr. Mansoor Al-Malki is an Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics, Vice President for Development and Quality at Shaqra University. He has a PhD from the University of Melbourne in Language Assessment (2014) & an MA in TESOL from Curtin University (2009).

He holds Cambridge Train the Trainer & CELTA certificates, and has taught English for several years in Saudi Arabia and Australia. His main research interests include language assessment, teacher identity, professional development, blended approaches in language education, and qualitative research methods in applied linguistics.

Dr. Bandar Al-Sobhi

Dr. Bandar Al-Sobhi is the vice-chairman of the English Language Department, Education Department, Jeddah. He started teaching English in 2001. Throughout his teaching career, he taught English in Saudi Arabia and abroad. In 2010, he was granted a four-year scholarship to teach English in Malaysia. Dr. Bandar holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Putra, Malaysia. His research interests revolve around the fields of Applied Linguistics and TESOL. He is a reviewer in different Scopus journals including SAGE and EU-JER. He published four papers in the last four years and was cited 136 times.

Dr. Nashwa Saaty


Dr. Nashwa Saaty is an Assistant Professor at KAU/ELI. She was awarded an MA in Applied Linguistics from The University of Nottingham, England, in 2008, and a Ph.D. in TESOL from the same university in 2015. Dr. Saaty has also received a diploma in Academic Leadership from KAU in 2021. She is currently the Head of the Graduate Studies and Academic Research Unit at the ELI.

Ms. Lubna Omer


Ms. Lubna Omer from ELI (KAU) has M.A., a CELTA and DELTA. She completed her DELTA module 2 from the BELL campus in Cambridge, England. She is a Cambridge certified teacher trainer and coordinator of the Curriculum and Testing Section at ELI, Women’s main campus. She is also a Cambridge-certified examiner. A voracious writer and an ardent presenter herself, she is passionately involved in empowering learners to become better English writers and speakers. As a member of the Saudi TESOL board of directors, she believes that enhancing teachers’ professional development is the best way to help the learners of the language. Her DELTA research combined with her teacher training responsibilities have afforded her the unique opportunity to explore teacher-student interactions that facilitate and enhance learning.
